Fill out PDF forms free in your browser: text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdowns, optional flattening. Your file is never uploaded.
Load a PDF form above and every fillable field in it appears as an ordinary web form: text boxes, multi-line boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns and list boxes. Type your answers, tick Flatten if you want to lock them, and press Download filled PDF. The answers are written into the PDF’s own fields, so the result opens correctly in Adobe Acrobat, Preview, Edge, Chrome and on phones.
Nothing is uploaded. The form is read and filled by a PDF library running in this browser tab. There is no server, no account and no copy kept anywhere. That matters, because the forms people fill out are full of personal data: tax and benefit forms, rental and loan applications, medical history, HR onboarding packs.
applicant.firstName becomes “First Name”). Fields marked read-only in the PDF are shown but cannot be changed.yourfile-filled.pdf.Many forms are “flat”: someone printed a Word document to PDF, or a paper form was scanned. The boxes are just lines on the page, and there is nothing for software to fill. The tool tells you when this happens and opens the page view instead. Use Add text to type an answer, tap where it goes, and drag it onto the line. Copy to every page repeats something like a name or reference number on each page. Text uses the standard Helvetica font at a size you choose, so answers look consistent.
Open this page in Edge, Chrome or Firefox and follow the steps above. Edge’s built-in PDF viewer can also type into fillable fields and save the file; it has no flatten option and cannot add text to a flat form as neatly. Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) fills fields and offers Fill & Sign for flat forms.
Preview fills AcroForm fields: open the PDF and click into a field. For a flat form, use Preview’s Text tool in the Markup toolbar. This tool is useful when you want a field-by-field list instead of hunting across pages, or need the result flattened.
Open this page in Safari and choose the PDF from Files or iCloud Drive. The field list is far easier to fill on a phone screen than tapping tiny boxes on a zoomed-out page. The filled PDF is saved to Downloads in the Files app. Alternatively, the Files app’s Markup view can fill some forms directly.
Open this page in Chrome, tap Choose PDF, fill in the list and download; the file goes to Downloads. Android has no built-in PDF form filler, so the usual alternative is an app such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.
| Not flattened | Flattened | |
|---|---|---|
| Answers can be edited later | Yes, by anyone with a PDF reader | No, they are part of the page |
| Form software can read the answers | Yes | No, they are just text on the page |
| Looks the same everywhere | Usually, but some viewers redraw fields their own way | Yes |
| Best for | Forms an office will process or that you will update later | Final copies you are sending, printing or archiving |
If the organisation asked for “the fillable PDF”, do not flatten: they may extract the answers automatically. If you are emailing a finished form to a person, flattening avoids the answers moving or disappearing in their viewer.
| PDF field | What you get |
|---|---|
| Text field | A text box; multi-line fields get a larger box. If the PDF sets a maximum length, it is enforced. |
| Checkbox | A checkbox. |
| Radio group | One option per button, plus clear to unselect. |
| Dropdown (combo box) | A select menu, or a text box with suggestions when the PDF allows custom entries. |
| List box | A list, with multi-select when the PDF allows it. |
| Signature field | Skipped. Fill the form, then sign it with the Sign PDF tool. |
| Push button | Skipped. Buttons run scripts, which this tool does not execute. |
Load the PDF into the tool. Every fillable field appears as a normal web form; type your answers, optionally tick Flatten, and press Download filled PDF. There is no account or watermark.
No. The PDF is read and filled inside your browser tab, so personal details in the form never leave your device.
The tool tells you and shows the pages instead. Use Add text to type an answer, tap where it belongs and drag it onto the line. Add date and Add check mark work the same way.
Flattening turns the filled fields into ordinary page content. The answers look the same everywhere and can no longer be edited, but software can no longer read them as form data. Leave it off if the recipient wants a fillable PDF.
It is probably an XFA form built with Adobe LiveCycle Designer. XFA forms only work in Adobe Acrobat or Reader. The tool warns you when it detects one.
Yes. Download the filled PDF, then load it into the Sign PDF tool to add a drawn, typed or uploaded signature and the date.
Form fields are filled with the standard PDF Helvetica font, which covers English and Western European languages. Characters such as Chinese, Arabic, Cyrillic or emoji cannot be written with it, so the tool reports them instead of saving missing letters.
Sign a PDF in your browser: draw, type or upload your signature, add the date and initials, place them anywhere and download. Your file is never uploaded.
Merge multiple PDF files into a single document with drag-and-drop reordering. All processing in your browser — no file uploads to external servers.
