How to Use Microsoft Edge Password Manager

The Microsoft Edge password manager saves your passwords securely, syncs them across devices, and helps you create strong unique passwords. This guide covers everything you need to know to manage passwords in Edge.

Enable Password Saving

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Click the three dots (···) menu > Settings
  3. Select Profiles > Passwords
  4. Turn on Offer to save passwords

Or go directly to: edge://settings/passwords


Save a New Password

  1. Go to a website login page
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. Click Sign in/Login
  4. Edge shows "Save password?" prompt
  5. Click Save

Tip: Click Never if you don't want Edge to ask again for that site.


View Saved Passwords

  1. Go to Settings > Profiles > Passwords
  2. Scroll to Saved passwords
  3. Find the site you need
  4. Click the eye icon to reveal password
  5. Authenticate with Windows Hello, PIN, or password

Search Passwords

Use the search bar at the top to quickly find passwords by site name or username.


Edit or Delete Passwords

Edit a Password

  1. Find the password entry
  2. Click the three dots (···) next to it
  3. Select Edit
  4. Update username or password
  5. Click Save

Delete a Password

  1. Find the password entry
  2. Click the three dots (···)
  3. Select Delete
  4. Confirm deletion

Use Password Generator

Edge can create strong passwords automatically:

  1. Go to a website's sign-up page
  2. Click the password field
  3. Edge suggests a strong password
  4. Click Suggest strong password or the dropdown
  5. Select the generated password
  6. Edge saves it automatically

Generated passwords include:

  • 15+ characters
  • Uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Numbers and special characters
  • No predictable patterns

Sync Passwords Across Devices

  1. Click your profile icon in Edge
  2. Select Sign in (if not signed in)
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account
  4. Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync
  5. Ensure Passwords is turned on

Syncs to:

  • Other Windows devices with Edge
  • macOS with Edge
  • iOS and Android Edge mobile apps

Use Password Monitor (Breach Detection)

Edge checks if your passwords appear in known data breaches:

  1. Go to Settings > Profiles > Passwords
  2. Click Password Monitor
  3. Turn on Show alerts when passwords are found in an online leak
  4. Click Scan now to check current passwords

If compromised passwords are found:

  • Edge shows which sites are affected
  • Click Change password to go to that site
  • Update your password immediately

Import Passwords

From Another Browser

  1. Go to Settings > Profiles > Import browser data
  2. Select the source browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
  3. Check Saved passwords
  4. Click Import

From CSV File

  1. Go to Settings > Profiles > Passwords
  2. Click three dots (···) at top of password list
  3. Select Import passwords
  4. Choose your CSV file

Export Passwords

Warning: Exported files contain unencrypted passwords. Handle with care.

  1. Go to Settings > Profiles > Passwords
  2. Click three dots (···) at top
  3. Select Export passwords
  4. Authenticate with Windows Hello or password
  5. Choose save location for CSV file
  6. Delete the file after importing elsewhere

iOS

  1. Install Microsoft Edge from App Store
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account
  3. Enable sync in Edge settings
  4. To use in other apps: Settings > Passwords > AutoFill Passwords > Edge

Android

  1. Install Microsoft Edge from Play Store
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account
  3. Enable sync
  4. To use in other apps: Settings > Passwords > Autofill service > Edge
